Our guide records include the topic scope, author, original publication date, latest update date, and source links. Each guide displays its update date and source list. Health and nutrition guides rely on established veterinary, animal-welfare, or regulatory resources where available and should be checked again when those resources change. How sources are prioritized
We start with sources closest to the underlying standard or professional guidance: government and regulatory material, veterinary association guidelines, peer-reviewed or university resources, and established animal-welfare organizations. We use commercial veterinary resources only when they add practical context and the claim remains consistent with stronger primary guidance. A longer source list is not automatically better; relevance, authority, recency, and direct support for the nearby claim matter more than publisher count.
Health and nutrition information
Health and nutrition guides are general education, not diagnosis, treatment, or a personalized feeding plan. Dogward does not currently have a named veterinarian reviewer, and no guide is presented as veterinarian-reviewed. We name the sources used and direct individual health or diet questions to the reader’s own veterinary team.
Review labels
Every guide distinguishes an editorial source check from independent expert review. “Editorial source check” means Dogward checked the listed references, scope, links, and safety boundaries. It does not mean a veterinarian or credentialed behavior professional approved the guide. “Independent expert review” may appear only when the guide records a named reviewer, relevant credentials, public profile, review date, defined scope, and conflict disclosure.
Independent review workflow
A qualified reviewer receives the exact guide and source record, identifies unsupported or unsafe claims, checks escalation boundaries, and confirms the revised version within an agreed scope. Dogward verifies the reviewer’s relevant credentials and public profile before publication. Payment or another material relationship is disclosed. A reviewer is named only on the pages they actually reviewed, and a later substantive change can return the page to editorial-source-check status until re-review.
Current review status
Dogward does not currently claim named independent expert review. On October 13, 2026, priority nutrition, everyday-care, senior-care, first-vet, grooming, and sensitive behavior guides received refreshed editorial source checks and explicit review scopes. Guides covering feeding schedules, treats, body condition, and cooperative nail care were checked under the same standard. They remain labeled “Editorial source check” until a verified veterinarian, veterinary nutrition professional, or credentialed behavior professional completes the relevant independent review.
Training and behavior
We prioritize humane, reward-based approaches and avoid presenting fear, pain, or intimidation as routine teaching tools. Dogs vary, and behavior concerns involving safety or distress may need help from a veterinarian or qualified behavior professional.
Updates and corrections
We date guides so readers can see when they were last updated. When a source or guidance changes and the guide is revised, we update the relevant date. Readers can use our contact page to report errors or broken source links.
Source recheck cadence
Priority health, nutrition, senior-care, and safety-sensitive behavior pages are scheduled for a source recheck at least every six months. Other evergreen guides are checked at least annually. We recheck sooner when a cited guideline changes, a link breaks, a correction is reported, a reviewer requests a revision, or new guidance could materially change the page. Dates change only after a substantive check or revision.
Products and commercial relationships
Dogward does not publish paid product rankings or claim that a product is best for every dog. If affiliate links or sponsored content are introduced, those relationships will be disclosed clearly and kept separate from editorial conclusions.
